What's new in the Bertschi Group?

We have fun! Perhaps some of you optimistically reacted to our April Fool's joke on solar-powered trucks. Unfortunately, such technology is not yet a reality for such high volume vehicles, otherwise, we certainly would be looking into it.

The new year comes with a significant milestone for the Bertschi Group. Fresh from production, the 40,000th Bertschi container ever produced has just been added to the Group’s container fleet. As it embarks on its first journey, on truck, train, and ship, the 40,000th Bertschi container marks an impressive success story of a company which deployed its very first containers back in 1970.

Bertschi achieves sales of CHF 1 billion for first time in 2021

The challenges of the past two years have brought on a worsened driver-shortage for the transport industry in Europe. With Bertschi's focus on intermodal rail transport, our supply chains remain strong despite the difficulties.

Global plastic production is estimated to be around 300 million tons per year and is continuously increasing every year. However, the proliferation of waste plastics that contaminate rivers, oceans, and landfills each year has also brought adverse environmental impacts. This has now become a major global challenge and has sparked a strong interest in more efficient production, use, and disposal of plastics, in line with the principles of the circular economy.

In Switzerland, the "Zukunfstag", or Future Day, is held every year around November time. Kids between the ages of 10 and 12 spend the day in the workplace of a parent, relative, or family friend, to see what it's like working in that particular job.

The pandemic has sent shockwaves through global trade, and particularly so in global maritime freight.

The Chevron Philipps Keystone Award goes out to teams or individuals that have contributed to the success of CPChem by unlocking possibilities and taking initiative beyond their regular job scope. This October 2021, Laurenz Beeckmans of Bertschi Group in Belgium was awarded this recognition. We asked him to walk us through the innovative thinking that led to this achievement.

The European Union passed the Green Deal Plan in 2019, aiming for a 90% reduction in greenhouse gases from transport by 2050. Well ahead of this target is Bertschi Group, with its market leading position in sustainable intermodal transport, and further plans and initiatives in climate neutral technology.

After a challenging 2020, where the world was engulfed by the coronavirus pandemic, Bertschi continues to be positive and enthusiastic with substantial investments in 2021. One such investment is the expansion at Bertschi UK. With the reality of Brexit last year, we forecasted the increase in demand for UK storage, and planned accordingly.
