Pioneering Work

  • In a pioneering move in 1964, the company loaded its first trucks onto a train on the route between Germany and Italy, travelling from Basel to Lugano. This marked the advent of transalpine intermodal freight transport from Germany to Italy.

  • In 2011, Bertschi was the first company to transport ISOtanks on a pure rail route between Europe and China.

  • Today, Bertschi is the European market leader in intermodal chemical transportation on rail, road and water. The company also estabilshed a leading position in global ISOtank transportation and value-added logistics services.

Bertschi specializes in logistics services for liquids and solid bulk products for the chemical industry. As a pioneer in transalpine intermodal transport, Bertschi also leads the way when it comes to sustainability in freight transportation. This is underlined by the company’s position as market leader in intermodal chemical transport on rail and water in Europe, eliminating thousands of road transport kilometres each year.

Building up on its dense European network of terminals and subsidiaries, the company has expanded geographically to become a leading global provider of tank container transport for the chemical industry. Customers are also offered freight management services and various added-value services thanks to own warehousing infrastructure. Remaining true to the philosophy of its founders, safety and protection of the environment are top priorities – without any compromise!
