Bertschi and industry partners launch a new initiative for more women in the logistics industry.

As part of a consortium of 10 members from the chemical and chemical logistics industry, Bertschi is a co-initiator of 'Women in Logistics (WIL)', the first industry-wide initiative to promote gender diversity and inclusion in the traditionally male-dominated logistics industry. Women in Logistics aims to drive meaningful change and promote an inclusive and diverse logistics industry through collaboration beyond competition.

Bridging the gender gap

Despite gradual improvements, the gender gap in logistics remains large. For example, the proportion of women truck drivers in the EU is only 6% or less. Eliminating this discrepancy is crucial to creating a balanced workforce. Research has consistently shown that diverse teams improve performance and achieve better business results. However, operational and managerial roles in logistics are still predominantly held by men, highlighting the need for targeted measures to promote gender balance.

This challenge is particularly pronounced in the logistics sector. "Bertschi has succeeded in achieving a balanced ratio between women and men in the new, globally active business areas - including at all management levels - but we still have a lot of catching up to do in Europe," says Hans-Jörg Bertschi, Chairman of the Group. This initial situation prompted Bertschi and its co-founders to launch this unique initiative and to pool their experience and concepts for a better gender balance.

Strategy of the consortium

The consortium is primarily targeting the European chemical logistics industry because the ten board members have expertise in this area and they believe that gender diversity is beneficial in sector-specific requirements such as reliability, safety, sustainability and resilience of supply chains.

Women in Logistics focuses its efforts on three main target groups: Drivers, logistics operators and managers. By organizing specific working groups for each target group, the consortium aims to drive significant change and promote an inclusive and diverse logistics industry.

In short, Women in Logistics is committed to driving meaningful change and promoting more gender balance across the industry. Through collective efforts, targeted actions and ongoing collaboration with other stakeholders, Women in Logistics aims to drive equality and promote and empower women at all levels of employment

At Bertschi, promoting diversity and inclusion within the company is already an important strategic goal that is pursued at various levels. The joint Women in Logistics initiative is intended to further strengthen and accelerate these efforts.
